Chariho Middle School Vision Statemtent

In order for CMS to continue its journey as a high-performing middle school, the school community—students, staff, families, and community members—must have a clear sense of the goals it seeks to reach, the students and families it serves, and the contributions that all must make to achieve this vision.

The Chariho Middle School community will:

  • be a warm, welcoming, and safe place for children and adults.
  • be respectful toward children, families and staff.
  • stay focused on student learning and success, with high expectations for all, in an effort to foster life-long learning.
  • see each student as an individual, with unique learning needs and talents, both within and outside the traditional academic subjects.
  • support healthy life-style choices through education and practices.
  • be cooperative partners in supporting learning for all students, using the community as a classroom and community members as resources and connections.
  • invite and encourage all members to participate in school activities and events.
  • create and update a School Improvement Plan that connects with and is supported by the District Strategic Plan.
  • stay focused on achieving seamless communication among all members of the community.
  • be supported by all aspects of the school system and broader communities it serves.

Teaching and Learning

Teachers and administrators at Chariho Middle School will:

  • foster a broad base of learning experiences that create multiple opportunities for all students to move toward proficiency.
  • instruct using best practices and differentiation in an effort to reach all learners and engage them in life-long learning skills.
  • focus instruction based on a rigorous curriculum connected to current national, state, and local standards.
  • provide students with time needed to meet challenging academic standards.
  • address individual student needs through personalization, as evidenced by the development and use of Individualized Learning Plans for all students, and the continued support of the Advisory program.
  • collaborate with colleagues (teams, grade levels, Unified Arts, specialists, TAs) to improve instructional strategies, curriculum integration, assessments, and student supports.
  • continue working toward the goal of “no zeroes” as a reasonable expectation for all students.

The Chariho Middle School community, recognizing that technology is an essential tool for learning and teaching, will:

  • teach students to be technologically literate.
  • teach students to be responsible and safe users of technology.
  • provide ready access to the latest available technology to enhance and support the learning of students.
  • work to provide student access to the Internet and school network from home for all students.
  • provide continued professional development for staff around the use of technology to support learning.
  • create and update a building level technology plan that connects with and is supported by the district plan for technology.
